KATHMANDU: A massive wildfire broke out in the Kahun Danda area of Pokhara on the evening of March 19 (Tuesday), sparking widespread alarm and prompting a swift and substantial response from local authorities.
Beginning around 7 pm, the fire raged through the night, presenting a formidable challenge to firefighters and posing a significant threat to nearby communities.
In response to the emergency, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel were promptly deployed to the scene to contain the inferno.
Tilak Manandhar, the Information Officer at the District Police Office, Kaski, underscored the daunting nature of the task, stating, “Controlling the fire is a formidable challenge.”
Of particular concern was the proximity of the fire to the Manipal Teaching Hospital.
To safeguard the hospital, additional security personnel and fire brigades were dispatched immediately.
Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, confirmed the deployment of two fire engines and hinted at the possibility of seeking support from Pokhara International Airport. “Every effort is being exerted to bring the fire under control,” he assured.
