KATHMANDU: Maoist vice-chair Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who was arrested from Rupandehi, is being brought to Kathmandu.

Mahara, who had reached in Rupandehi via Bhairahawa Airport en route to Rolpa from Kathmandu, was apprehended by the police in the morning from the residence of Maoist leader lawyer Muslim in Dhakdhai. “Mahara sir was about to have dinner when he was taken into custody,” a police source revealed.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Manohar Bhatt, spokesperson for Rupandehi Police, stated that Mahara was flown to Kathmandu as he expressed a desire to return there under police surveillance.

This action followed Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s directive on Sunday for the police to proceed with the investigation against all individuals implicated in the gold smuggling case.

Regarding the vape case, the Commission of Inquiry on the control of illegal importation (trafficking) of gold concluded that Mahara should be indicted as a defendant

Meanwhile, Mahara’s son Rahul remains incarcerated in connection with the same case. The Central Investigation Bureau of the police has probed Rahul for his alleged involvement in ‘organized smuggling’.
