KATHMANDU: The Karnali Chisapani Bridge along the East-West Highway has been reopened after a week of closure.

Following repairs, the Karnali Bridge, which sustained damage from a fire incident, is now restored, allowing traffic to resume as of today.

The fire, which occurred last Monday, originated from a truck bearing registration number Ba 5 Pa 5297, transporting lighters from Birgunj to Kanchanpur.

Approximately 14 timbers on both sides of the bridge were affected by the blaze.

District Police Office Kailali has confirmed the reopening of the previously closed bridge effective today.

Initially, traffic will operate in a one-way direction only.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Chand, spokesperson for the District Police Office Kailali, stated that a decision on implementing two-way traffic will be made after assessing the situation over the next few days and considering recommendations from experts.

A technical team from the road department was dispatched on Tuesday to assess the extent of damage to the bridge.

Following their evaluation, one-way traffic has been permitted starting from today.
