KATHMANDU: During a meeting in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba, King Abdullah II of Jordan and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is on a visit, expressed concern about the potential for an Israeli attack on Rafah in Gaza on Sunday.

The king stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and called for intensified efforts to safeguard civilians and provide humanitarian assistance to the region’s inhabitants.

He affirmed Jordan’s stance against any forced displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, as well as any attempts to divide them.

Both leaders cautioned against the repercussions of an Israeli attack on Rafah, warning that such action would worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The meeting underscored the European Union’s role in facilitating peace in the region and urged effective measures to establish a political framework for achieving a just and inclusive peace, based on the two-state solution.
