KATHMANDU: Krishna Bahadur Mahara, former speaker and vice chair of CPN Maoist Centre, has been arrested.

Mahara, who was on the way to Rolpa, was arrested by the police a little while ago from Rupandehi.

Mahara, the leader of the CPN Maoist Centre, is being brought to Kathmandu after his arrest in connection with the gold smuggling case.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane instructed civil and police personnel to take immediate action, leading to Mahara’s apprehension.

Following a recommendation from the commission, Mahara is expected to be registered as a defendant in the vape case, which also involves his son Rahul, currently detained.

The Central Investigation Bureau investigated Rahul for “organized smuggling” in the same case.
