KATHMANDU: In a tragic turn of events, Shivashankar Das, the young man suspected in the murder case of staff nurse Chandrika Kumari Das at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar, has been discovered deceased.
The Morang District Police Chief, SP Navaraj Karki, confirmed that Shivashankar, aged 22 and the alleged partner of Chandrika Kumari Das, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room located in front of Nobel Hospital.
Nurse Chandrikumari, a resident of Siraha’s Phulkahakatti Municipality, was found murdered in a house located in Biratnagar-4. Her body was discovered on Friday afternoon inside a bathroom.
Following Chandrika’s murder, Shivashankar was being sought as the prime suspect. However, he was found dead by apparent suicide, as informed by SP Karki. “We had been conducting investigations diligently. Yesterday afternoon, we tracked Shivashankar’s phone location to Kanchanbari in Biratnagar,” SP Karki stated. “Upon reaching the hotel, the door was found unlocked. Upon inspection, Shivashankar’s body was found hanged.”
The hotel where Shivashankar’s body was discovered is located approximately 300 meters south of the room where Chandrika Kumari Das was murdered. Investigations revealed that Shivashankar and Chandrika had been in a relationship for the past four years.
The police investigation revealed that Chandrika was involved in a relationship with a young man from Siraha after Shivashankhar went to overseas employment.
“Chandrika’s betrayal in love seems to have led to her murder,” said police officials involved in the investigation. “Shivashankar has also expressed his intention to commit suicide by calling his sister on Sunday.”
Shivashankar had returned from Malaysia just a week ago, after being abroad for employment.
He arrived in Kathmandu on Falgun 27 (March 10) and came to Biratnagar on Falgun 29 (March 12).
Police stated that upon reaching in Biratnagar, he resided in Chandrika’s rented room.
According to the police, the murder took place on Thursday afternoon after a love dispute.
