KATHMANDU: Pokhara city of Kaski district has been officially declared as the tourist capital.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal announced Pokhara as the tourism capital of Nepal on the occasion of Pokhara Festival on Sunday.
He declared Pokhara as the tourism capital of Nepal saying that Pokhara is a unique confluence of natural and cultural region.
He made this announcement amidst a function organised at Barahighat, near the Phewa Lake in Kaski today.

Pokhara is the main tourist destination of Nepal. The destination has been announced by the Nepal government as the capital for tourism in the country from today.
Addressing the event, Dhanraj Acharya, the head of Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, announced that Pokhara, renowned as one of the world’s premier tourist destinations, has been officially designated as the tourism capital of Nepal.
He expressed his belief that this declaration would contribute significantly to the overall development of the Gandaki province and the nation as a whole.
Acharya emphasized that the decision to designate Pokhara as the tourism capital was made after careful consideration of its unique characteristics and identity, akin to how other countries declare their cities as capitals.
He recounted the extensive study conducted by a committee of experts, which recommended Pokhara’s selection as the tourism capital based on various indicators.
He said that with the announcement of the tourist capital, Gandaki State government, local level policies will be in the development of the tourism sector.
