Police have detained four individuals, including a grandson, on suspicion of murdering an elderly woman in Gauradaha Municipality-7, Jhapa.
The deceased has been identified as Narmaya BK, 82.
According to Superintendent of Police Milan KC of Jhapa District Police Office, the suspects, including 17-year-old Dhiraj BK, Tanka Darlnal, Raju Mallik, and Bahadur Darji, have been taken into custody.
The incident, which occurred on the night of Falgun 25 (March 8) during the festival of Shivaratri, came to light through initial investigations.
SP KC revealed that Dhiraj, who had been consuming intoxicants, allegedly attacked his grandmother, Naramaya BK, with a rod, leading to her demise.
Following the murder, her body was found in a cowshed by the police.
Ramesh BK, the deceased son lodged a complaint with the police on Wednesday morning saying that his mother was missing since five days.
“As soon as the complaint was lodged with the police, while investigating, it was found that he had been murdered and his body was buried in cowshed,” SP KC said.
The investigation revealed that Dhiraj may have killed his grandmother under the influence of drugs, said police.
