Police constable dies in attempted arrest of prisoner

KATHMANDU: A prisoner has escaped from the jail of District Police Office Darchula.
The prisoner escaped by jumping from the back of the district police office on Monday afternoon.
He reached India by swimming in the Mahakali.
The escaped prisoner has been identified as 23-year-old Umesh Kunwar of Mahakali Municipality-1.
During the pursuit, a Nepal Police constable Sohan Chaudhary sustained severe injuries after falling from a cliff while attempting to apprehend an escaping prisoner.
Subsequently, Superintendent of Police Prajwal Maharjan informed about the death of the constable.
The Gorkha Regiment (GR) on the Indian side, which is located on the banks of the Mahakali, has taken control of the escaped prisoners and handed them over to Nepal.
