Aryal, officer who granted citizenship to gold smuggler Dawa, arrested

KATHMANDU: An officer has been arrested on the charge of giving Nepali citizenship to a Chinese citizen.

Ram Chandra Aryal was detained by authorities on charges of granting Nepali citizenship to two Chinese individuals who had been jailed for their participation in gold smuggling.

He works at the official sixth level of the Bagmati State Assembly Secretariat at Hetauda-10.

Aryal is suspected of assisting foreigners involved in gold smuggling in obtaining Nepalese citizenship while serving in the Kavre district government.

Aryal worked as Nayav Subba after Chinese citizens were awarded citizenship.

The CIB is investigating the event.
