5-year-old’s boy undero successful eye surgery

KATHMANDU: Awaj Shrestha, a 5-year-old male hailing from Itahari, presented with the wooden stick penetrating the upper part of the eyeglobe of the right eye after falling from a swing about 9 hours back and being referred from another tertiary center to our hospital.

The boy was disoriented and drowsy at presentation with GCs 8 and blood drooling from the lateral aspect of the wound.

After arrival, all the required investigations were done, and the patient was rushed to the OT. We did the right supraorbital mini craniotomy with elevation of the depressed right-sided supraorbital frontal bone and removal of the foreign body along with duroplasty.

Lid reconstructive surgery was done by the ophthalmology department with a thorough check-up of all the structures of the eye.

After surgery, the patient was in the ICU for 3 days, and the period was uneventful.

After 10 days in the ward, the patient was discharged with improved vision of the right eye and a GCS of 15.
