KATHMANDU: On Tuesday night around 9:10 PM Nepali time, users across Nepal found themselves abruptly logged out of Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, sparking concerns of a possible hack.

However, the issue stemmed from a technical glitch affecting these social networks under Meta’s umbrella, the parent company of Facebook.

For approximately an hour, users grappled with the inability to log in, prompting widespread confusion and frustration. While Meta acknowledged the issue, specific details regarding the cause remained undisclosed. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone took to X, a social media platform, to address the situation, stating, “We are aware of the issues users are experiencing with our services and are actively working to resolve them.

Within a few moments of his tweet on Tuesday night, the problem was solved and all the related social sites were restored.

Earlier in 2021, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were closed for more than 6 hours.

At the time, Facebook said the problem was caused by a configuration change on the backbone routers.
