KATHMANDU: Investigations into the tragic murder of 15-year-old Gyanmati Thulung Rai have uncovered a disturbing motive – a dispute over a love relationship.

According to initial police findings, Gyanmati, a resident of Mamaghar in Patharishanishchare-7 Lama Tole, was fatally attacked around 10:30 pm on Monday while heading to the restroom.

She sustained multiple injuries from sharp weapons, resulting in her immediate death.

Hailing from Aiselukharka in Khotang, Gyanmati was residing with her uncle’s son, Binod Rai, at the time of her murder.

She was a 7th-grade student at the local Panchayat Secondary School.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjan Kumar Dahal, Spokesperson for the District Police Office Morang, stated that the preliminary investigation points to a motive stemming from a love affair. Further inquiries are underway to shed light on this tragic incident.

“Regarding the incident, a thorough investigation is being carried out. According to the preliminary investigation, it appears that the murder was due to a love dispute. As the investigation is ongoing, more details will be revealed,” said DSP Dahal.

The team of Pathari area police office as well as the team of district police office Morang have been mobilized to investigate the murder of Gyanmati.

Similarly, a team of trained dogs and experts from the Koshi State Police Office has also been deployed for investigation.

According to the details revealed by the preliminary investigation, the police have arrested some people who are suspected to be involved in the murder.

However, the identity of the arrested person has not been revealed by the police.
