DAO Kathmandu bans meat & liquor sales & consumption in Pashupatinath area

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has imposed a ban on the sale and distribution of alcohol and meat in the Pashupati area. This decision comes ahead of the Mahashivaratri festival to prevent any inconvenience.

Jitendra Basnet, the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, issued a notice on Monday informing that from Falgun 23 to 27 (March 6-10), production, sale, distribution, storage, and consumption of alcohol, meat, and intoxicating substances have been prohibited in the areas around Pashupatinath.

According to the directive, the ban extends from Gaushala Maitri Park Road to the east, the eastern boundary of the Pashupati area to the west, Tilganga Chakrapath to the north, and encompasses all areas southwards from Maitri Park-Umakunda-Gaurighat to Guhyeshwari.

The administration has warned of legal action according to the law against those who defy this notice.
