Chungwang jeep accident update: One dies, 15 being treated

The deceased is 9-year-old Sanskriti Rai from Chungwang. She was seriously injured in the accident and was brought to Dhankuta District Hospital for treatment.

KATHMANDU: One of the injured people died in the pick-up jeep accident that took place in Pakhribas Municipality Ward No. 10 Chungwang on Sunday afternoon.

Fifteen injured people are being treated.

The deceased is 9-year-old Sanskriti Rai from Chungwang. She was seriously injured in the accident and was brought to Dhankuta District Hospital for treatment.

The doctor declared her dead as soon as she was taken to the hospital.

Similarly, 22-year-old Ravika Rai from Pakhribas and 40-year-old Sanu Ale from Kathmandu, who sustained injuries, have been sent to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for further medical care.

Additionally, in Dhankuta Municipality-4, Devi Khatri (36 years old), Ajit Khatri (10 years old), Devika Khatri (36 years old), and Sunita Khatri (47 years old), along with Laxmi Rai (10 years old) from Pakhribas Municipality, are currently undergoing treatment at Dhankuta Hospital.

Eight other individuals initially treated at the local primary hospital were later transferred to Dhankuta Hospital for continued medical attention.

The unfortunate accident occurred when a pickup jeep veered off the road near Bharati Secondary School, plunging approximately 40 meters below.

Initial investigations suggest that the incident may have been caused by a tire malfunction, compounded by the unpaved condition of the road.

The accident site is situated roughly 15 km away from Hile Police Station.
