Salin Pokhrel, a 14-year-old residing in the hostel of Ekta Shishu Niketan Boarding School, was discovered hanging inside his room last Saturday morning.
The girl’s lifeless body was found suspended from the ceiling fan with a rope in her hostel room, which was locked from the inside.
Upon failing to respond when called for dinner in the morning, she was discovered hanging after the hostel staff and her friends broke open the door following repeated attempts to contact her.
Despite these findings, relatives of the deceased filed a complaint alleging rape and murder against the school’s principal, vice-principal, and hostel warden.
Police subsequently arrested Principal Balhari Devkota (60), Vice-Principal Kiran Bahadur Adhikari (40), and Hostel Warden Kamal Sharma Paudel (48) on Tuesday, following the relatives’ complaint.
The court granted a seven-day detention period for investigation purposes. Pressure from relatives and others via social media urging an impartial investigation has mounted on the police.
However, authorities have urged against doubting the investigation, emphasizing that further details will be clarified following the post-mortem report.
