KATHMANDU: A new dining destination, ‘Gurkha Valley,’ has recently opened its doors in Tonbridge, UK.

Embodying the essence of Nepali culture, this restaurant has been serving patrons since February 5th.

Philip D.C., the operator of ‘Gurkha Valley,’ expressed that the restaurant aims to provide Nepali and Indian residents in Tonbridge, as well as other international guests, the opportunity to savor authentic Nepali cuisine.

“We launched this restaurant with the vision of ensuring Nepalis abroad can experience the true taste of Nepal. The ambiance and culinary offerings here reflect Nepali culture, contributing to its promotion and preservation,” remarked Philip D.C.

‘Gurkha Valley’ reflecting Nepali culture

The Gurkha Valley restaurant, overseen by operator DC, offers a diverse menu featuring Nepali, Indian, and international cuisines.

In addition to tantalizing taste buds with authentic Nepali and Indian flavors, Gurkha Valley aims to immerse diners in Nepali culture.

To achieve this, the restaurant employs traditional Nepali dining utensils such as copper plates, glasses, and bowls, sourced directly from Nepal. These elements reflect the essence of Nepali culture and enhance the dining experience for patrons.

Further enhancing the Nepali ambiance, cultural instruments like the Madal, Damaru, and Sarangi are prominently displayed within the restaurant. This attention to detail not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also attracts foreigners seeking an authentic taste of Nepali culture.

Looking ahead, the restaurant plans to introduce regional specialties such as Momo in Tapari and Marsi Chamal rice (red rice) from Jumla. These additions will further enrich the dining experience, offering patrons a taste of Nepali cuisine’s diverse offerings.

What’s on the menu of ‘Gurkha Valley’?

The cuisine of ‘Gurkha Valley’ includes Nepali foods such as Nepali Thali, Masem Ko Dal (small bean lentils), Chowmein, Choyla, Bhutun, and Sekuwa.

Sudip DC, another operator, claims that Nepali and Indian foods are given extra attention so that outsiders can see and sample Nepali cuisine.

DC mentioned that other meals would be offered in the coming days.

Skilled and experienced chefs from UK and Nepal

The ‘Gurkha Valley’ restaurant employs competent and experienced cooks from the United Kingdom and Nepal.

According to DC, another operator, Bhim Adhikari, is a head chef with 15 years of experience running restaurants in the UK. In addition, the officer controls the restaurant’s kitchen.

Similarly, Tabitha Chaulagain, who has maintained a restaurant in Nepal for almost 15 years, is an experienced chef.

Operator DC says that since the restaurant has a team of experienced chefs, it feels like eating in Nepal.

Establishment of Gorkha Valley

The Gurkha Valley restaurant, which is fully operational in Tonbridge, has been built by displacing an Indian restaurant that is about 30 years old.

Earlier, only Indian dishes were served in the restaurant, especially now Nepali and Indian dishes are served.

The restaurant will be open from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 11:00 p.m.

The restaurant has a good arrangement for families to relax and eat, and it also offers delivery within an 8 to 10 km radius.

Operator D.C. requested all customers to come to the restaurant with their family and enjoy the Nepali and Indian cuisine.

He says that there are rapid and high-quality foods accessible in the Gurkha Valley.
