KATHMANDU: A confrontation erupted between pavement traders and the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police in Sundhara, Kathmandu.
The clash unfolded on Wednesday evening when sidewalk vendors attempted to establish their stalls in Sundhara, prompting intervention from the Metropolitan Police.
During the altercation, 5 city policemen and 6 traders sustained injuries. Metropolitan Police Chief Raju Pandey disclosed that the clash occurred while attempting to relocate the sidewalk vendors who had set up their stalls near Dharahara.
“We instructed them not to commence business before 9 o’clock. However, they started at 7 o’clock. When we attempted to clear the area, we encountered resistance,” Pandey stated.
Conversely, the traders have accused the city police of employing harsh tactics against them. The Nepal Self-Employed Trade Workers Association released a statement alleging that the Metropolitan Police team, under the leadership of DSP Manoj Lamichhane, instigated the attack on the workers.
