Building airport in Dharan is unsuitable: Nepal Civil Aviation Authority
In a statement released on Tuesday, the authority cited a comprehensive feasibility study, revealing significant obstacles to constructing an airport in the Dharan Sub-Metropolitan area.
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Civil Aviation Authority has determined that building an airport in Dharan is not feasible due to technical and operational challenges.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the authority cited a comprehensive feasibility study, revealing significant obstacles to constructing an airport in the Dharan Sub-Metropolitan area.
According to the statement, the existing air policy mandates that any airport constructed in the Terai and interior Madhesh regions should be at least 40 nautical miles away from the nearest airport.
Additionally, the geographical constraints of the area limit air traffic to only one approach, rendering it unsuitable for regular and long-term commercial aviation operations.
After considering various technical and operational hurdles, the authority has concluded that building an airport in Dharan is not possible.
