KATHMANDU: During the ongoing Mahasamiti meeting, former Prime Minister and current Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has hinted at the commencement of discussions regarding potential amendments to the Constitution.

Speaking at the opening session of the party’s Mahasamiti gathering, which kicked off in Godawari, Lalitpur, on Monday, Deuba stressed the necessity of initiating talks about amending the Constitution while ensuring the preservation of its core principles and fundamental elements.

“With the Constitution being in effect for eight years, challenges and complexities have emerged during its implementation. It’s imperative to begin discussions on amendments to address these issues without compromising the Constitution’s political framework and fundamental tenets,” stated the NC President.

Deuba underscored the significant role of NC’s political ideology in shaping the constitutional framework.

“The current Constitution of Nepal was formulated under the leadership of the NC, with a focus on establishing a parliamentary system based on multiparty competitive federal democracy, aligning with the principles outlined by the NC,” he affirmed.

Additionally, Deuba stressed the importance of garnering public trust and confidence in the Constitution, advocating for it to become a cornerstone of public faith and assurance.
