KATHMANDU: In the inaugural legislative session of the Maoist Centre, suggestions gleaned from group discussions were compiled into a cohesive legislative framework.
Following a meeting of party officials, President Prachanda conveyed optimism about the party’s trajectory, highlighting the valuable input received to enhance the constitution.
Emphasizing the forthcoming synthesis of ideas during a special convention alongside the legislative session, President Prachanda underscored the focus on safeguarding and advancing the party’s interests.
The gathering, held at Pragya Pratishthan in Kamaladi, saw contributions from 20 distinct groups, with 13 groups presenting suggestions on Wednesday and the remaining seven today, regarding the legislative draft introduced by President Prachanda on Falgun 1 (Feb 13).
During today’s session on legislation, Kamala Naharki put forward several suggestions, including advocating for the party’s involvement in labor and production, initiating a new transformative campaign, and excluding Khas-Arya from the inclusive group.
Leader Prem Bayak proposed a concise preamble for the law and emphasized the need to construct a party that is responsive to the populace. He recommended streamlining organizational principles and introducing honorary memberships.
Leader Yuvaraj Dulal proposed changing election symbols, maintaining democratic centralism, and ensuring freedom of thought alongside consistency in actions. He stressed his group’s insistence on limiting terms to two in the same post.
Party central member Rajkaji Gurung underscored the importance of precise language in the statute and urged for a collective commitment to adhere to it.
He suggested that there should be a provision for electing people’s representatives from the party committee.
Central member Ramdeep Acharya suggested that the party should make it clear whether it is going to be reorganized or rebuilt. He suggested that large levels should be removed for elections.
Central member Krishnadhwaj Khadka suggested that arrangements should be made in the party in such a way that the system of alternate central members and the constitution of the central committee cannot be changed.
Mentioning that suggestions have been received to make the various commissions effective, he said that arrangements should be made to organize them by including those with thematic expertise.
Central member Suman Devkota said that it was his group’s suggestion that an index of workers should be created and assets should be made public.
Clarifying that legislation should be prepared according to the spirit of federalism, he suggested that departments should also be mentioned in the legislation.
