KATHMANDU: A devastating fire in Aberdeen, Scotland, has claimed the lives of two Nepalese sisters.

Aanchal Subedi, aged 28, and Shikshya Subedi, aged 24, residents of Back Hilton Road, lost their lives in the fire on Monday evening.

Their father is Dr. Yagya Prasad Subedi, former professor of Pokhara University. Dr. Shiva Tiwari, Chair of Nepalese Himalayan Association Scotland in Aberdeen, has informed that the Subedi sisters died due to smoke inhalation due to the fire. The flat they lived in was on the second floor and the fire started on the first floor of the same building at 6 pm.

Upon discovering the fire, the sisters attempted to evacuate but were overwhelmed by thick smoke.

Unfortunately, they lost consciousness before reaching the ground floor, and despite the timely arrival of firefighters who rescued other occupants, the sisters couldn’t be saved.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, the police have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play.

The Subedi family, originally from Pokhara, Nepal, had been residing in Aberdeen for nearly two decades. The deceased sisters had recently been living in separate flats near their parents.

Aanchal, an engineer, and Shikshya, with a background in IT, had been actively engaged in their respective professions.
