KATHMAND: Paneru Mahat, the Taplejung Land Revenue Office’s Chief Accountant, has been jailed in a corruption case.

On Friday, the special court sentenced her to six months in jail and a fine of 1.5 million rupees.

The decision was taken by the special committee’s chair, Teknarayan Kunwar, and members Ram Bahadur Thapa and Muraribabu Shrestha.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority took the office chief Mahat into custody on 11 Baisakh 2079 (24 April , 2022) along with 150,000 rupees.

She had taken a bribe from the service receiver to cancel the father’s land and transfer it to the son’s name with a new land registration.

Mahat received Vibhushan from the President only 10 days before her arrest. She was honored by Prabal Janasewa Shri Chaturth on 1st Baisakh 2079.
