Congress leader Pokhrel dies aged 102
Draupada, the late Govardhan Sharma Pokhrel's wife, has made an unmatched contribution to the restoration of democracy since the people's movement in 2007.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Draupada Sharma Pokhrel passed away at the age of 120 this morning at her residence in Ranibari, Samakhusi.
Draupada, the late Govardhan Sharma Pokhrel’s wife, has made an unmatched contribution to the restoration of democracy since the people’s movement in 2007.
She was elected chair of the local women’s organization during the people’s revolution in 2007.
Govardhan Sharma’s property was confiscated, and he was detained during the 2018 Jana Kranti and carried to Pokhara on foot for custody.
Draupada’s four sons, Ramchandra, Krishnachandra, Dr. Jagdishchandra, and Subash Pokhrel, as well as two daughters, Priyamvada and Satyavati, serve as president and guardians of the Govardhan Sharma Memorial Trust.
Her eldest son, Ramchandra, said that she will be cremated at Pashupati today.
