KATHMANDU: The death toll from a landslide in a mountain village in southwest China’s Yunnan province on Monday has reached 11, local officials said on Tuesday morning.

47 people went missing after a landslide hit Liangshan village in Zhaotong City at 6 am on Monday.

According to the local disaster assistance headquarters, 11 individuals perished by 10 p.m. on Monday night.

More than 1,000 rescue professionals are on the site, performing search and rescue operations.

The expert group’s preliminary inquiry determined that the accident was caused by a fall on a steep slope above the slope.

The collapsed mass is approximately 100 meters broad, 60 meters high, and has an average thickness of 6 meters.
