ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, with its talented and skilled human resource base, digital infrastructure, entrepreneurial spirit, and vision for digital transformation, is all set to become a knowledge-based economy, Pakistani caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar said Thursday.

The government of Pakistan, through its digital policy, envisions bringing economic prosperity and citizen empowerment through digital transformation, Kakar said here while addressing a Tech Destination Pakistan event that featured the launch of e-employment centers in the country.

Pakistan is exporting information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services to more than 190 countries and regions, he said.

With over 90 percent teledensity, Pakistan has recently ranked as the second most financially attractive destination in the world for offshore outsourcing of IT and IT-enabled services, the prime minister added.

He said the Pakistan Software Export Board has increased the number of software technology parks (STPs) from eight across Pakistan to 30. “We are in the process of establishing another 40 STPs in the smaller cities across Pakistan,” Kakar said, adding that the government is working on the vision of digital Pakistan through multiple cross-sectoral digital transformation initiatives.
