KATHMANDU: Real Madrid secured a spot in the final of the Spanish Super Cup by defeating city rival Atletico Madrid 5-3 on Wednesday.

The match, which ended in a 3-3 tie, was decided in extra time, with Real Madrid scoring two goals to advance.

In the Saudi Arabia match, Atletico Madrid initially took the lead with a header from Mario Hermosa, but Antony Rüdiger equalized with a header.

Ferland Mendy then gave Real Madrid the lead, and just before the end of the first half, Antoine Griezmann leveled the game with a record-breaking goal—his 174th for Atlético.

Atletico Madrid took the lead in the second half with Real’s Rudiger scoring an own goal.

However, Carvajal’s goal five minutes before the end of the game forced the match into extra time.

In extra time, an own goal by Stefan Sevic and a goal by Brahim Diaz secured Real Madrid’s place in the final.

They will face either Barcelona or Osasuna for the title. The final match is scheduled for Saturday.
