SYDNEY: Police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) declared a critical incident investigation on Wednesday after a man was shot dead in Nowra.
According to a statement by the NSW Police Force, just before 1:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, officers were called to a medical clinic on Junction Street in Nowra, a town located about 155 kilometers southwest of Sydney, after receiving reports of a patient pulling out a firearm.
“At about 2:40 p.m., the man, armed with a firearm, came out of the premises and confronted officers.
He was shot and was immediately treated by officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics, but died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified,” said the police.
The authority also noted that a critical incident team will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and the investigation will be subject to an independent review.
