KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team depart for South Africa for the ICC U-19 World Cup.

The farewell for the Nepali cricket team was given by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) today.

Dev Khanal will lead the team in the upcoming tournament, scheduled to take place in South Africa from Jan 19.

Before the tournament begins, the Nepali team will undergo a one-hour training session in South Africa.

Following the training, Nepal will play warm-up matches, starting with a left-arm warm-up game, followed by official World Cup matches.

In this edition of the U-19 World Cup, Nepal, along with 15 other teams, will compete in the tournament.

Nepal is placed in Group D, alongside Pakistan, Afghanistan, and New Zealand.

Nepal’s first match is scheduled for Jan 21 against New Zealand, followed by matches against Pakistan on Jan 24 and Afghanistan on Jan 27.

Before the World Cup, Nepal will play warm-up matches against Scotland on January 13 and West Indies on Jan 16.

This marks Nepal’s return to the U-19 World Cup after an eight-year hiatus.

After securing a spot in the tournament in 2016, Nepal had to withdraw due to a diplomatic stand-off with the United Arab Emirates.
