KATHMANDU: The legal proceedings in the case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane have initiated in the District Court Kathmandu. The court began the hearing from 10:30 AM this morning, as per the information provided by sources.

The proceedings started from Sunday in the bench of Judge Shishirraj Dhakal, and the case has been scheduled for today after the arguments were not completed.

Previously, Sandeep was sent to prison in Kathmandu for pre-trial detention in connection with the juvenile rape case. However, the Patan High Court had granted him bail of 20 lakh.

The Supreme Court had further allowed Lamichhane to participate in competitions abroad. The case is expected to proceed with arguments from Sandeep’s legal representatives after both the prosecution and defense presented their cases on the first day of the hearing.

The pace of the proceedings suggests that a decision might be reached today.

Earlier, legal representatives from both sides had extensively noted their arguments. The legal teams from both the prosecution and the defense are numerous, making the proceedings challenging to conclude in a single day.

Former Attorney General Raman Shrestha had been representing Sandeep from the beginning of the case.

Additionally, senior advocate Shambhu Thapa is expected to present arguments on behalf of Sandeep.

Other legal practitioners involved in the case include Krishna Sapkota, Sabita Bhandari, Saroj Ghimire, Murari Sapkota, and another lawyer.
