No immediate spread of new variant of COVID-19 in Nepal, health ministry confirms
If the presence of the new variant is confirmed, the concerned individuals will be closely monitored and provided with necessary medical interventions.
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has reassured that the new variant of the coronavirus, causing concerns in regions like Kerala and New Delhi in India, has not yet spread in Nepal.
Although individuals affected by the new variant have been identified in India, the Health Ministry spokesperson, Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, emphasized that there is no immediate serious impact observed within Nepal.
The ministry has been actively monitoring the daily movement of individuals at 16 border entry points, especially those working in health desks and handling health materials.
Dr. Budhathoki highlighted that individuals with a history of respiratory issues entering through international airports and border points are subject to health examinations and COVID-19 tests.
If the presence of the new variant is confirmed, the concerned individuals will be closely monitored and provided with necessary medical interventions.
Despite the current stable situation, the ministry is maintaining a high level of preparedness to address any potential challenges associated with the new variant.
Regular updates and coordination are being maintained with health desks at international airports and entry points, and the necessary measures are in place for prompt response if the situation evolves.
The health authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance and adherence to established protocols, urging citizens to remain informed and cooperative to collectively safeguard public health.
