KATHMANDU: The Nepal Sanatan Dharma Culture Association has called for the resignation of Sudan Kirati, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.

They urged Minister Kirati’s resignation on Thursday, expressing their discontent with his comments in a public program on Wednesday.

Participants in the rally carried signs saying things like “sack the irresponsible minister,” “resign Sudan Kirati,” “stop non-religious appointments in the religious sector,” and so on.

In a public program on Wednesday, Minister Kirati called all those who do not accept Christianity traitors and declared that people who do not accept Christianity should be imprisoned.

As of the same remark, Minister Kirati is being opposed all throughout the country. Pushparaj Purush, Chair of Nepal Sanatan Dharma Culture Association, stated at the protest that it was improper for the country’s incumbent minister to attend to a community’s event and attack other communities while insulting one group.

He urged that the minister’s remarks be withdrawn immediately since he was unfit for the office of minister. As a minister, he claims to have sought to undermine societal harmony.

He said, ‘We have protested that the incumbent minister of the country went to one community and condemned the other communities and gave insulting expressions to one community. Those who do not accept Christianity, they all deserve to go to jail. The appointment of non-religious people in temples should be stopped.

He stated that non-religious persons should not be appointed in the religious sector and that the religious sector should not be used as a recruitment center for party activists. Laxmi Pun was named executive director of the Pashupati Area Development Fund during a meeting of the Pashupati Area Development Governing Council presided over by Sudan Kirati, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. That appointment has now become contentious as well.
