KATHMANDU: The government initiates a vaccination drive targeting measles-rubella and typhoid in earthquake-affected regions.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, the campaign will kick off on Thursday.

The measles vaccination will cover the districts of Jajarkot and West Rukum, while typhoid vaccination will be administered in Surkhet, Salyan, Dailekh, Kalikot, Jumla, Jajarkot, and West Rukum, according to Budhathoki.

Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, the Head of Child Health and Immunization Branch at the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services, mentioned that the measles-rubella vaccine will be given to children aged six months to 15 years, and the typhoid vaccine will be provided to individuals aged 16 to 45 years.

Expressing concern about a potential outbreak, Gautam noted, “After the earthquake, there is a possibility of an epidemic, the most likely to be measles-rubella and typhoid. Children in those places may have had less nutrition and may have consumed contaminated water, so we are conducting a vaccination campaign against measles-rubella and typhoid.”

The vaccination campaign aims to cover 150,000 individuals aged 6 months to 15 years and 650,000 individuals aged 16 to 45 years, with operations continuing until Poush 14 (Dec 30).
