IPL Auction 2024: Mitchell Starc overtakes Pat Cummins, becomes the most expensive buy in IPL history
Starc, 33, will return to the IPL after an eight-year absence, having previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
KATHMANDU: In the IPL 2024 auction, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc emerged as the most expensive player to date.
Starting with a base price of 2 crores, Starc initially attracted bids from Delhi Capitals. Subsequently, Kolkata Knight Riders joined the bidding war, competing against Mumbai Indians.
In the end, between Gujarat and Kolkata, Starc was purchased by Kolkata for a hefty 24.75 crores.
Starc, 33, will return to the IPL after an eight-year absence, having previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Earlier in the day, Pat Cummins, Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning captain, secured a deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore.
Starc and Cummins, who won the ODI Men’s Cricket World Cup by beating India in Ahmedabad, had surpassed Sam Curran’s record as the most expensive player in the league’s history. Currans had bagged Rs 18.50 crore from Punjab Kings for IPL 2023.
