KATHMANDU: In the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction on Tuesday, New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra was successfully secured by Chennai Super Kings for a substantial sum of Rs. 1 crore 80 lakhs.

The bidding battle for Ravindra unfolded between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Among the 300 players initially lined up for the auction, over 1100 players had initially submitted their names. However, the teams shortlisted 333 players, and due to a withdrawal, the final count now stands at 332.

Gujarat Titans currently possess the highest remaining purse among all teams, amounting to INR 38.15 crore (approximately USD 4.6 million), and are tasked with filling eight slots, including two overseas players.

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants have the smallest available purse, standing at INR 13.15 crore (approximately USD 1.58 million), to address six slots, including two overseas players.

Collectively, the franchises hold a combined remaining purse of INR 262.95 crore (approximately USD 31.58 million).

The trio of Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Jofra Archer from England has opted out of the IPL this season to effectively manage their workloads.

Notably, Kedar Jadhav is not present in the trimmed list, and the names of Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan are also notably absent. It’s important to highlight that the retention/release deadline has passed.

However, in accordance with the IPL’s regulations, the player trading window commences one month after the conclusion of a season and remains open until a week before the auction date. It then extends until a month before the commencement of the next season.

The trading option will be available again starting December 20, the day following the auction, and will continue for up to a month before the beginning of the 2024 season.
