Identitarians arrested from Dharan released

KATHMANDU: Twelve identity activists, detained during the second day of the state shutdown, were released by the Dharan Area Police Office at around 5 PM.

Following their release, activists held a corner meeting in Bhanuchowk, expressing their determination to continue the movement until State re-naming based on identity is achieved.
While the shutdown program has been temporarily concluded, Rajendra Rai, the Sunsari District Committee Coordinator and Tenant Chairman, stated that the movement will resume after receiving further instructions from the State 1 Re-naming Joint Struggle Committee Center.
Rai accused UML Chair KP Oli and leaders Mahesh Basnet, Kshitij Thevere of creating unrest in State 1 by making anti-identity statements.
Raju Rai, the Sunsari District Coordinator of Youth for Identity, criticized KP Oli’s character, highlighting the contradiction of opposing identity while participating in the cultural practices of different ethnic groups. He emphasized the youth’s readiness to make sacrifices for the state’s re-naming based on identity.
More than two dozen identityist leaders and activists, including Gopal Kirati, were arrested on the charge of trying to obstruct UML’s prosperity journey from Jhulaghat to Chiwa Bhanjyang.
Demanding their unconditional release, the State 1 Re-naming Joint Struggle Committee had called a 2-day shutdown across the state on Saturday and Sunday.
Although markets and educational institutions were opened, long-distance transport was completely stopped
