Tobacco products ban: 100 rupees fine for smoking in Kathmandu
Smoking is also prohibited throughout the city. From now on, selling and consuming smoking is prohibited within 100 meters of public places.
KATHMANDU: The selling, consumption and transaction of tobacco-based products will be fully prohibited in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City area from tomorrow.
Tobacco sales and consumption will be prohibited beginning Thursday, according to the metropolitan.
The sale and consumption of tobacco products, including raw tobacco, chewing tobacco, and gutkha, has been prohibited by the government.
Speaking at the press conference, the spokesperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nabin Manandhar said that tobacco products have been banned in Kathmandu since Mangsir 28 (Dec 14).
He stated that after Mangsir 28 (Dec 14), tobacco products would not be sold in Kathmandu, and that if they are found to be sold, the shops will be closed and also the products were found to be sold in the shops again, the shops would be confiscated, but if they were sold a third time, the shop would close.
Smoking is also prohibited throughout the city. From now on, selling and consuming smoking is prohibited within 100 meters of public places.

If someone smoke in public,they will be evicted and fined up to 100 rupees, according to the metropolitan. If it is discovered selling within 100 meters of a public location, it will be confiscated and shuttered.
For this aim, municipal police will be mobilized at a rate of ten persons in four locations of Kathmandu Metropolitan, and ten individuals will be stationed in the center for continuous surveillance.
In the initial phase, 50 city police officers will be mobilized, and they will also monitor in plain clothes.
Following that, additional city police and other staff will be deployed as needed.
This provision is included in Clause 42 of the Public Health Act the KMC issued in 2080 BS. The provision in the Act is being strictly implemented in a bid to reduce the adverse effects the use of tobacco products is having on individual health.
Tobacco control is the first condition for improving the public health and environment in the city. It is said KMC is preparing to implement programme to control hukka in the second phase.
