KATHMANDU: One individual was detained with 14 kg of gold at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

According to the police, the arrested person is Chandra Ghale of Gorkha Barpak, who arrived in Kathmandu from FlyDubai on Thursday night.

Arjun Chand, Chief DIG of the TIA Security Office, revealed that seven gold biscuits containing two kilos of gold were confiscated from the Ghale.

The gold, shaped like biscuits and totaling 14 kg, was discovered concealed on both the right and left sides of his chest and wrapped in cloth.

Following preliminary investigations indicating that the gold discovered in Chandra Ghale belonged to Meen Bahadur Ghale of Gorkha, he was captured on Thursday night in Dhumbarahi.

Ghale was scheduled to arrive in Nepal on Wednesday aboard a FlyDubai aircraft FZ 573. As a result, the airport has been under observation since Wednesday.

Following Ghale’s absence on Wednesday, the flight was also watched on Thursday. After the flight touched down, the other passengers had nearly entirely departed, and Ghale emerged from the plane lately.

As soon as he landed, he was apprehended by the customs team.

Both detainees have been transferred to Koteshwar police station for temporary custody.

Chief of Customs Pandey stated that they would be brought to the airport customs office in Gauchar for further investigation once the office opens.
