TikTok sends email to register in Nepal
"TikTok has sent an email appreciating that the introduction of social network regulatory guidelines is a good thing," Ministry spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi said.
KATHMANDU: TikTok has written an email to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in order to register in Nepal. TikTok issued an official letter for registration after the government enforced a ban.
“TikTok has sent an email appreciating that the introduction of social network regulatory guidelines is a good thing,” Ministry spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi said. “In the email, questions about registration were raised on two or three occasions.”
‘Looking at the email, it appears that their objective is to register in Nepal,’ he added.
Subedi stated that the government will not respond because the Tiktok ban is still being litigated in court. He stated that, while there may be conversations about listing other sites, there will be no formal contact with that platform until the court renders its ruling on Tiktok.
The government banned Tiktok on Kartik 27 (Nov 23), citing its bad influence on social cohesion and the social environment. 14 writs have been filed at the Supreme Court challenging the aforementioned ruling.
Despite the fact that a full hearing was set on Tuesday, it was placed on the ‘not to be viewed’ list.
