KATHMANDU: Employees of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) have begun a protest of the decision to award ground handling based on open competition.
Employees of the company and joint trade unions began a protest on Wednesday, asking that ground handling at Tribhuvan International Airport be granted automatically by regulations rather than through open competition.
With the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) intention to award ground handling at Tribhuvan International Airport through open competition, they have urged that ground handling be awarded to an open air service corporation.
Employees of the corporation protested, claiming that the corporation should obtain the ground handling service, which earns around 4 billion rupees each year.
They have stated that they will prevent the technician from attending the authority’s audit.
According to the European Union (EU), the authority is planning to perform a comprehensive audit for three days beginning Wednesday, and the workers of the business have stated that they will not allow the authority’s staff to enter the corporation.
According to Ramesh Kumar Pandey, vice chair of Nepal National Employees Organization and senior officer of the corporation, the protest was started in response to the decision made by the authority’s DG to remove it from the ground handling corporation, alleging that Nepal Airlines Corporation was not removed from the blacklist based on the European Union’s report.
According to him, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority is attempting to take away the ground handling service that Nepal Airlines Corporation has been providing.
He stated that the authority’s decision on ground handling was not in the best interests of the authority or the country. He said that the company earns 4 billion rupees every year from ground handling.
He said that the attack was directed at the ground handling service that the firm provides in accordance with international norms.
Employees have stated that they will oppose the decision to discontinue ground handling.
They claimed that the authorities should grant it to the ground handling corporation for the benefit of the corporation and its employees.
The employees have raised slogans such as cancel the anti-national decision of the authority to take away from the ground handling corporation, reverse the decision to dissolve the corporation, stop the bully of the civil aviation authority, resign the DG of the corrupt CAN.
