Raid on New Road gold smelting factory: Pandey of Kailali arrested, seized gold being weighted

KATHMANDU: The police raided a smuggled gold smelting factory at New Road in Kathmandu.

The Valley Crime Investigation Office raided the factory close to ‘Ompal Gold Shop Pvt Ltd’ last night.

The police also seized gold from the factory.

According to SP Ravindra Regmi of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, gold extortion has begun following Pandey’s detention. “The estimated amount of 7 kg of gold will be determined after completion of the process,” he said.

Padam Pandey, who works at the factory and lives in Nagarjuna, was detained.

An investigation is now ongoing, according to the police.
