KATHMANDU: The number of women in governmental policy-making positions has just begun to rise dramatically.
According to the Department of National Personnel Records data, women’s involvement in the civil service has reached roughly 27 percent.
Sewa Lamsal was recently appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Secretary Bharatraj Paudyal has been suggested for ambassadorship before retiring, and the parliamentary hearing committee has confirmed his appointment.
The charge of the vacant Foreign Secretary has been given to the Senior Joint Secretary, who is now the Permanent Secretary.
The number of female secretaries will rise to nine if the Lamsal Secretary gets promoted. Sarita Dawadi was just promoted to secretary. However, there is still a tug of war over who will be the Energy Secretary.
Liladevi Gadtaula is currently the Secretary for Law in the Prime Minister’s Office and Council of Ministers, Pramiladevi Bajracharya as the Secretary for Science and Technology in the Ministry of Education, and Devkumari Guragai as the Secretary for Population and Administration in the Ministry of Health.
Following the same promotion, Laxmi Basnet is now the Chief Secretary of Gandaki Province, while Radhika Aryal is the Chief Secretary of Lumbini State.
Similarly, Deputy Auditor General Bindu Bista and Supreme Court Registrar Nirmala Poudel operate as secretaries in the Auditor General’s office.
