Attempted to kill Ward Chair in Dhankuta by locking house setting fire

KATHMANDU: An attempt has been made to kill Devendra Guragain, the Ward Chair of Pakhribas Municipality-6 of Dhankuta, by locking him in his house.

The house was set on fire while he was sleeping on Sunday night, and he was locked up from the outside.

Ward Chair Guragain said that when he woke up at around 12:48 in the night, smoke was swirling inside the house. He said, ‘As soon as he woke up from his sleep, he found out that the house was on fire. When I tried to go out with my wife, it was not possible because of the smoke. The door was also locked from outside.

He said that his wife and he saved their lives through window with the help of the ladder given by neighbor Ambika Thapa.

The incident was staged with the goal of killing us. There is no information about who set the fire inside the house and why. The cause has yet to be found. We discovered it in good time and saved lives,” he explained.

Ward Chaur Guragain said that police have begun an inquiry into the event and that one individual has been arrested.

He further stated that the fire damaged around 2/3 lakh worth of things inside the house.

Chief District Officer of Dhankuta Punyavikram Paudel said that the house of Ward President Gurgai was set on fire and both are safe now. He also said that the police are investigating the incident.

Gurgain was elected on behalf of the Nepali Congress.
