Election Commission poised to register parties for National Assembly elections

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) in Kathmandu has set to initiate the registration of political parties for the upcoming National Assembly (NA) elections during the last week of November.

The elections, scheduled for Jan 25, aim to elect 19 members to the NA, with the commission completing the election timetable following the announcement of the election date by the administration.

The period for party registration has been scheduled from Dec 10 to Dec 15 for all participating parties, according to the authorized schedule.

Furthermore, the commission said that election emblems would be allocated to registered parties on Dec 17.

The commission will appoint the election officer on Jan 1, 2024, to guarantee a smooth electoral process.

The election will take place from Jan 5-14.

While the deadline for candidate registration is yet unknown, the commission is contemplating making Jan 5 the registration deadline.

Today is likely to see the announcement of an official decision on this matter.
