KATHMANDU: Police officers in Karnali State aren’t allowed to use mobile phones while on duty.

The state police office has issued a circular to the police on duty not to use phones.

This rule, according to the authorities, does not apply to team commanders.

“We have instructed the police personnel on duty to use the commander’s phone if necessary,” Karnali State Police Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Bhim Dhakal said, adding that “employees who are engaged in sensitive work like security, we have imposed mobile restrictions so that they can focus only on their field and subject with one mind.”

DIG Dhakal stated that this decision was made because security monitoring will be effective if no mobile phone is used, investigations would be successful promptly if a crime occurs, police staff can be protected from social media usage, and police personnel’s mobile phone will be saved.

He also stated that this type of activity will strengthen the public’ faith in the police. He stated that circulars have been delivered to all districts, ganas, training centers, and local police stations instructing them not to use mobile phones while on duty, and that effective briefings and monitoring systems have also been put in place.
