KATHMANDU: Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State, died at the age of 100.

Kissinger Associates said in a statement that Kissinger, a world-renowned diplomat, died on Wednesday at his home in Connecticut.

During the administrations of then-US Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, Kissinger served as Secretary of State and National Security Advisor.

In 1973, Kissinger was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. That year, the Swedish Academy jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Kissinger and Vietnamese ambassador Le Duc Tho for their crucial role in ending the Vietnam War.

Kissinger’s most recent book on diplomacy, ‘Leadership’s Six Studies in World Strategy,’ was published in April 2022. He visited Beijing in July and met Chinese President Xi Jinping, demonstrating his commitment to be active till the end of his life.

Kissinger was also instrumental in bringing a diplomatically isolated China on the world stage in the 1970s. Kissinger was born in Germany to a Jewish family. In 1938, his family fled to America to avoid the totalitarian Nazis.
