Youth fatally attacked for refusing cigarette, 14 held

KATHMANDU: A youth died from beating in a marriage ceremony held in a village at Lamkichuha Municipality-9 in Kailali district.
Mohan Adhikari, 26, died today when a group of unknown person thrashed him in a marriage ceremony held at Ghoraghat village.
He was one of the attendants of the wedding ceremony of Dilli Koirala taken place on Tuesday night.
A dispute arose when a person asked Mohan for a cigarette, and tensions escalated when Mohan refused. Inspector Basyal reported that a group of youths, who had requested cigarettes, assaulted the Adhikari in response.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Kailali, Adhikari sustained critical injuries in the attack and was being rushed to Tikapur Hospital for further treatment.
Kuldeep Chand, Spokesperson at the DPO, Kailali, shared that Adhikari was pronounced dead by the doctors at the hospital.
The injured youth had lost his consciousness after he was beaten black and blue by a group of unknown people.
Inspector Basyal informed that 14 people involved in the beating were arrested till Wednesday afternoon and the incident is being investigated.
Those arrested are 23-year-old Bivek Bhul, 22-year-old Bishal Bhul, 22-year-old Santosh Pariyar, 24-year-old Ganesh Bhul, 15-year-old Pintu Chaudhary, 22-year-old Dil Bahadur Chaudhary, 22-year-old Puran Sarki of Lamkichuha Municipality-9 Ghoraghat.
Similarly, 28-year-old Birkha Bhul, 24-year-old Sonu Saud, 23-year-old Chakra Kunwar, 20-year-old Akesh Kunwar, 23-year-old Nivan KC, 25-year-old Ramlal Chaudhary and 24-year-old Bishal Kumal of the same municipality were arrested, Inspector Basyal informed.
He said that they have been kept at the local police office Lamki and further investigation is underway.
