KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Council of Ministers resolved to hold the National Assembly election on Magh 11 (Jan 25).

The Council of Ministers met on Wednesday morning at Singha Durbar resolved to hold elections for vacant members of the National Assembly in two months.

Rekha Sharma, Government Spokesperson and Minister of Communication and Information Technology, stated that the election date was set after consultation with the Election Commission. On the Falgun 20 (March 3), the tenure of one-third of the National Assembly members (20 persons) will end. There is a legal need that elections be held 35 days before that date.

Similarly, it has been agreed to mobilize the Nepal Army, Armed Police, and Nepal Police to construct temporary shelter for earthquake victims in Jajarkot.

According to Sharma, if there is inadequate manpower in the district for such task, it has been decided to bring in outside help.

“It was decided to deploy the army and armed police under the leadership of CDO to build temporary housing for the earthquake victims,” she said, “If the manpower is not enough, the decision will be taken by the CDO as per the requirement.”

According to him, since there have been complaints about the construction of temporary housing for earthquake victims, security personnel will be mobilized based on the recommendations of the District Security Committee to provide safe temporary housing to the affected.

The Council of Ministers has also decided to appoint Shweta Dawadi as the vacant secretary post of Nepal Engineering Service.
