KATHMANDU: The death toll due to El Nino floods in Kenya has reached 76.

The Kenyan government has increased its response as the death toll continues to grow.

In response, Kenyan President William Ruto convened an emergency meeting and authorized the release of an additional 10 billion shillings (65.5 million US dollars).

Thousands of people have been uprooted in various regions of the East African country as a result of exceptionally intense El Nino rains.

Thousands of homes have been inundated, according to the government and authorities. El-Nino rains are expected to continue until January 2024, wreaking havoc on metropolitan areas and the semi-arid lowlands, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department’s latest weather projection. El Nino has impacted Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia.

The Cabinet has mentioned that 38 of the country’s 47 counties are at high danger. These include flash floods, general floods in the Terai plains, river bank collapse, landslides and mudslides, animal loss, and crop and infrastructure disaster.

The conference directed that the scope of quick reaction be expanded in order to rebuild the deteriorating road network and expedite the delivery of humanitarian supplies to the impacted people.

During this period, it asked all Kenyans to prioritize security on their trips, as well as in their homes and offices.
