KATHMANDU: The High Court Patan has been hearing the review petition against the detention order granted by the Kathmandu District Court in the bogus Bhutanese refugee case since last week.

The arguments of the 22 defendants in the bogus Bhutanese refugee case were concluded by Tuesday.

After their arguments, the public prosecutor will argue.

Following the conclusion of the public prosecutor’s case on Wednesday, the accused’s lawyer will provide a counterargument on Thursday. According to Patan High Court Judge Thagindra Kattel, the verdict is not expected till Friday.

The layers for former Deputy Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi began presenting their case on Monday. Their discussion concluded before Tuesday’s lunch break.

Following the lunch break, the accused Ramsharan KC, Keshav Tuladhar, and Sagar Rai presented their defense arguments. The lawyers for the defendants’ arguments have now concluded.

There will now be a discussion on behalf of the government counsel beginning tomorrow. Following the government lawyer’s arguments, the petitioner’s (respondent’s) attorneys will offer a counter-argument. Following that, the High Court will rule on the appeal petition.

After a lawsuit was filed alleging that Nepali government ministers and top government attorneys were engaged in shipping Nepali individuals to the United States as bogus Bhutanese refugees, the Kathmandu District Court ordered all the defendants to be transported to Dhuna for pre-trial custody on Ashar 1 (June 16). Those who had been held filed an appeal with the High Court against the detention order.
